Imperative, the Nature Infrastructure Company™, and Kita, the specialist carbon insurance provider and Lloyd’s of London Coverholder, are proud to announce their collaboration to make carbon non-delivery insurance available for Imperative’s Ecosystem Restoration Projects. Under the offering, investors in Imperative’s projects and buyers of Imperative’s carbon credits will be able to elect to have their contracts insured by Kita.
This insurance will wrap Imperative’s carbon projects with comprehensive protection against non-delivery, safeguarding Imperative’s ability to deliver against contractual obligations and providing security to investors and offtakers engaged in Imperative’s projects.
Scobie Mackay, CEO of Imperative, said: “Our priority is to deliver and operate best-in-class, large-scale, infrastructure-grade ecosystem restoration projects and to make nature a genuinely investible asset class. Working with Kita allows us to provide risk-differentiated offerings to our investors and customers, covering project production and delivery risk, a key concern for many traditional funders and for long-term offtakers looking to hedge their environmental exposures.”
Tom Merriman, Chief Underwriting Officer and Co-founder of Kita, said: “Kita’s mission is using insurance to unlock investment for high-quality carbon projects. We are pleased to be working with a world-class nature infrastructure company such as Imperative to deploy insurance, enabling investors to obtain protection for carbon non-delivery risk, thereby facilitating deployment of capital into Imperative’s nature infrastructure projects.”
The offering will also come with the option for investors/offtakers to opt into Kita’s Risk Advisory services. Drawing from Kita’s insurance underwriting model, these services provide unbiased, thorough third-party risk assessment, both to understand insurability prior to investment and as value-added ongoing monitoring for projects that are insured. This will assist Imperative, investors and offtakers to identify, understand and monitor insurable risks, enabling collective proactive risk mitigation.
